Great music, spending time with friends, and the chance to help a child, what more could a student ask for. The ASU chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternity presents Corey Smith in concert on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 8 p.m. in Tailgate City with proceeds benefiting the Arkansas Children's Hospital in care of the Children's Miracle Network.

Smith, a Jefferson, Ga. native, is known for his songs such as "Wishing I was 21," "If I could do it again" and "Next year." With four CD's out, Smith's style is described on his Web site as a melding of "country, rock and blues into a sound that is all his own."

"I recently started listening to him and I reallyenjoy his music," Brittany Hinson, a junior mid-level education major of Little Rock, said. "I think it will be really fun to go listen to him and hang out with my friends."

The fraternity decided to host the concert after a previous Corey Smith concert was held successfully at Clemson University in South Carolina The concert, also a benefit for the Children's Miracle Network, was hosted by the Sigma Chi chapter at Clemson University.

"Corey is very popular on campus, especially in Greek life, and we knew we would have a lot of support," Ben Stevens, the ASU Sigma Chi philanthropy and campus/ community involvement chair, said.

ASU's own Sigma Chi chapter was brought to campus in 1987 and currently has 53 active members. They have supported the Children's Miracle Network for the past 12-13 years.

The Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to saving and improving children's lives by raising funds for children's hospitals across the nation, including Arkansas Children's Hospital.

The only pediatric medical center in Arkansas, the Arkansas Children's Hospital serves children from birth to age 21 and is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the United States.

Through the concert the fraternity hopes to raise $10,000 in funds for the organization and has raised $1,500 in proceeds as of Wednesday afternoon.

They expect a crowd of 150-200 people. Tickets are now on sale for $15 in advance or $20 at the door and may be purchased at the Sigma Chi house, from 10 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Dean B. Ellis Library or online at http://coreysmith.tickets.musictoday.com.

"Right now all we are selling is Pepsi products and probably hot chocolate," Stevens said. "Nothing can come in from outside the gate, that is university policy."

Security for the event will be provided by the National Guard, two university officials and 30 members of the Sigma Chi security.

Gates will open at 7 p.m. and the concert is expected to end no later than 11 p.m.
