Some students have been receiving phone calls from an anonymous person offering a chance to win $150. The students, who are customers of the local Focus Banks, are told they are speaking to a bank representative and all they have to do is answer a few questions about their account and experiences at Focus Bank.

On Friday, ASU Faculty Senate discussed a proposal from the calendar committee regarding different options on Thanksgiving break for the next two academic years.
There were two options reviewed, the first was for the traditional full week for Thanksgiving break and the second was for a fall break and shortened Thanksgiving break.
Honors College to present Mark Bauerlein Tuesday

Feb. 2, 2009 -- The Honors College of Arkansas State University announces its inaugural Honors Lecture with Dr. Mark Bauerlein, on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m. in the ASU Student Union Auditorium.
Dr. Mark Bauerlein is the author of "The Dumbest Generation.

One of the most influential intellectuals, Dr. Cornel West, spoke to students and faculty Friday night at the Fowler Center.
"I choose to be full of hope and not despair," Dr. Cornel West said.
West has enlightened many others through his speeches regarding justice, love, peace and above all else, black history.

Feb. 6, 2009 -- ASU Theatre announces the cast for its third production of the year, "Talk Radio," by Eric Bogosian.
"Talk Radio" will be performed Friday-Saturday, Feb. 13-14 and Tuesday-Wednesday, Feb. 17-18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fowler Center.
A "meet the company" dessert reception will follow the Friday, Feb.

Hard work and dedication has allowed one ASU student the chance to make the most of her senior year.
Kristen Irwin, a senior biology major from Heber Springs, was recently awarded the Student Undergraduate Research Fellowship award from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education for her intensive work on her project, the evolution of troglomorphic characters among hypogean fish.

Arkansas State University-Jonesboro announced that a preliminary record spring enrollment of 11,056 for the Jonesboro campus, the highest spring enrollment ever recorded. This number shows an increase of 723 students, or 7 percent, compared to the spring 2008 headcount of 10,333.
