Our View: Travel your world, wherever that may be

Issue date: 3/31/08 Section: Opinion
These days the world seems so much closer than in times past. With just the push of a button, we can look in on another part of the world or chat with someone half a world away, even the heavens are closer than they once were, with talks of space tourism becoming reality.
But while this is true, nothing can give you real perspective of a place like going there. Maybe that place will not be as different as you thought it would be, or maybe it will be so very much beyond what you expected.
The world holds so many wonders, the mysterious pyramids of Egypt, the great wall of China, the ruins of Italy and Greece.
For some people, they want to see new countries on different continents miles and miles away; but this may not be right for everyone, some are content to merely get out of their own backyard.
There is a wealth of new and interesting places, people and experiences to discover close to home, no matter where that is.
Arkansas, for one, is home to the only public diamond mine. There are several parks and lakes in the area that might provide nice camping or hiking sites. There are several rivers that can be floated, canoed or rafted and caves that can be explored.
There are so many other things to do around here as well. But the point is get out and live.
If all you ever do is stay in the same place, interacting with the same people, doing the same things, then you will miss out on a lot of the diversity there is in life and the possibilities that life can hold for you.
Travel your world.
