Homecoming Queen wins Miss ASU pageant, $5600 prize

Callaway, 21, is a radio-television major from Warren. She will receive a $400 entry on an advertisement page, a $200 wardrobe allowance, a $5000 scholarship awarded by the Student Affairs Commission, and will compete in the Miss Arkansas Pageant.
"I never imagined that I would be Miss ASU," Callaway said. "It is such an honor to represent ASU; I really hope to influence the program NICE (National Institution of Character Education), because it's such a positive thing."
"When it comes to the question, is the glass half-empty or half-full, it doesn't pertain to me. I'm just happy to have a glass," Callaway said.
Miss ASU 2008 was Megan Bookout.
The contestants chose Anna Callaway for Miss Congeniality, to whom Pi Kappa Alpha offered a 50 dollar scholarship.
The audience voted for Somer Allen as People's Choice. She was awarded 190 dollars.
The 4th alternate, awarded $100, was Kayla Hendrix. The 3rd, awarded $150, was Somer Allen. Second, awarded $200, was Kailey Pinson.
The judges observed the contestants in four categories. Prior the pageant, each contestant had an interview. During the interview, worth 25 percent of the overall competition, the contestants elaborated on their goals, their platforms, and various social issues.
The first category during the pageant was the swimsuit competition. The judges considered physical fitness, poise, and beauty pertaining to face and figure.
The next category was art, entertainment, and talent, worth 35 percent. Last, the contestants participated in the evening gown portion.
