Police are currently investigating a robbery that took place around 4 a.m. Friday in Collegiate Park.

Only one of the two students involved provided the statements for UPD's police report and describing the culprit as "a black male with all black clothes, with a bandana covering his face."

According to the report, Officer Keith Johnson met with one victim and was informed that the two students were leaving a friend's Collegiate Park Apartment, and were walking back to Arkansas Hall at the time of the incident.

The student reported that he and a friend were in the hall of Collegiate Park building two when the suspect began talking to them as they walked.

According to a Jonesboro Sun article, the students were leaving a 'dice game' in the building and were robbed of $300.

The suspect reportedly revealed a handgun, cocked it and pointed it at them. The students began to run towards NorthPark Quads when one of them fell.

The suspect pointed the gun at the victim on the ground and instructed him to "throw down his money." He followed the gunman's instructions and took his money.

The students then continued to run and dialed 911 immediately afterwards. The student that spoke with Johnson reported that nothing was taken from him.

At the time of the report, the second student involved had not contacted UPD.

Within hours of the incident, all ASU students received an e-mail notification of the incident containing a description of the suspect urging students to "be cautious in this area and report any suspicious activity to the University Police immediately."

One ASU student and resident of Collegiate Park said that he does not check his e-mail regularly and was uninformed of the robbery.

"It doesn't startle me," he said. "I'm not surprised that it happened because things like this happen a lot, but it is surprising that it happened around here."

Another student, who has lived on campus for five years, said that she felt very well-informed of the incident and received two e-mails and a text message, and her initial reaction was "oh, great."

"When I walked to class I paid more attention but didn't see any UPD out or anything, but I didn't really think about it either," she said.

She also said that her fiancé lives in building two, in which the robbery occurred.

"That worried me a little because we could have walked out the door and got shot or something," she said.

On the contrary, another resident of Collegiate Park said the he felt the robbery was the work of a "jokester," and he probably didn't have a particular motive, but instead did it only "to gain some street credibility."

"I feel that it was completely uncalled for and stupid," he said. "I haven't noticed any more officers since the robbery, but I don't think security is bad at all here in the first place."

He said he sees officers patrolling the ccampus and parked around Collegiate Park quite often.

"I don't think we have a problem at all with security; some things you just can't help."
