Over 200 people came out to run in Saturday's 5k race for CASA, Court Appointed Speical Advocates, which help abused and neglected children.

On Saturday over 200 runners from Northeast Arkansas laced up their tennis shoes, stretched and ran across Craighead Forest Park in support of CASA, (Court Appointed Special Advocates).

The Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity sponsored a 5K/10K at 9 a. m. and were able to raise over $3,000 for CASA, an organization that helps abused and neglected children.

It was the first year the men held the event, but they are hoping it will not be the last time.

"I think it was an amazing success.

The runners said they had a great time and the challenging 10K course made it even better," said Clayton Harbers, who helped organize the event.

Jim Sterns, a Lambda Chi Alpha alum who is head of Sterns Timing and deeply involved with Ridge Runners, offered the men a spot in the Ridge Runners Series and they simply couldn't refuse.

"We literally ran with the offer, because to us, it is an excellent way of giving back to the community and we try to give back every chance we get.

This seemed like the perfect way to do so and to have a good time with it," Harbers said.

After about 90 sweaty, minutes, the race was over, but the people who ran the race hope that the children will receiving the benefits will get the help they need.
