Letter to the editor: Residence lies

Issue date: 11/16/09 Section: Opinion
"Stay tuned for arrival dates!" "Coming Soon!" "Coming to a Collegiate Park Apartment near you!" Promises regarding the arrival of Collegiate Park's new furniture have been abundant, yet the delivery non-existent.
Flyers released throughout the Fall 2009 semester have given hope to residents, only to be let down by the lack of execution.
As a student and contributor to Residence Life's massive salary, I am not trying to be unreasonable.
I only ask for what I have been promised, and recent calls to Residence Life have confirmed that it could possibly be the Spring 2010 semester before the furniture arrives, if at all.
This is not the only grievance I have with Residence Life, as recent emergencies requiring the support of Community Assistants have only resulted in negative attitudes and even more difficulties.
After attempting to contact the CA on duty an estimated fifteen times as well as visiting every CA's room in the facility, I was finally able to get my door unlocked.
Although this incident occurred around midnight, the issue could have been resolved in a timelier manner.
A portion of my payment to Residence Life is going towards the personnel, an investment I am definitely unsatisfied with.
Concerns such as this and the furniture have caused me to question my decision to stay at Collegiate Park when I could be living in a facility that shows more care for its residents.
Not to say that Residence Life is putting in no effort at all, for they have stayed true to their promise of delivering new mattresses as well as painting the exterior of all apartments.
But until I see some major improvements or new furniture, I have lost a great deal of faith in the system. Residence Life, more like Residence Lies.
