I have a class with this guy named Fawaz Alajmi. If you were to meet him you'd probably think that he is Muslim, and you'd be right.

For him and so many other Muslims on this campus and worldwide, being a Muslim is the most important part of their lives and they live it out everyday

I try to live out my Christian faith everyday as well but unlike Fawaz, and my other Muslim friends, I don't fear being discriminated against or hurt because of my believes.

I'm sure this fear grows stronger when news of a shooting, like Fort Hood, breaks out and the suspect is Muslim or has a "Middle Eastern" sounding name.

All of a sudden all Muslim are terrorists out to destroy the "American" way of life.

I guarantee that the Muslims I know and that are on this campus would never hurt anyone for any reason.

I think the fear of Muslims comes from the lack of knowledge of their religion.

Muslims follow Islam, which is the second largest religion in the world following Christianity.

The term Islam means submission to the will of God. The word Muslim comes from the same Arabic word for peace.

Muslim means peace. I realize this may be hard for people to understand, considering there have been many Muslims who have killed in the name of Islam. But consider all the Christians that have killed in the name of God.

Muslims as a whole are not the enemies of America. Pulling them over on the street or stopping them in the airport lines or sitting as far away from as you can in classes is irrational and goes against what America stands for, which is freedom of religion.

As a Christian I may not agree with some of what the Muslim faith as to offer, but I am happy to have so many as my friends.
