This season's hot bag is more of a "tot" bag-and I don't mean it's deep fried and served with ketchup.

Art Unites, a team composed of world famous fashion designer Donatella Versace and the education department of the Whitney Museum of American Art, has put together a project intended to educate underprivileged children in the U.S. and China about visual art.

The children that the project will benefit were given the opportunity to design friendship themed bags for Versace.

The bags made their big debut in Versace boutiques in October, specially priced at about $200 a pop, much more affordable than a typical Versace piece.

Upon learning this, I was rather surprised because I'd always perceived Donatella Versace as having a heart about two sizes too small.

Maybe it was the overly dramatic SNL skits about her where she was always wearing a red gown in a penthouse suite, sipping champagne and welcoming in over-the-top guests.

Maybe it was the general stereotype of high-end fashion designers altogether as being cruel and self absorbed.

Either way, it warmed my heart to read that underprivileged children were not only being provided an opportunity to learn about the arts, but also they were being allowed to design bags that would be carried by women all over the world-that's a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Tom-you and your little cloth shoes can step aside. There's a new must-have charitable accessory in town. And these aren't made out of rubber and litter.
