The long-awaited second installment of the "Twilght" saga burst into theaters at midnight at the Malco Theater on Nov. 20, and with its arrival came mixed feelings about how the movie would turn out.
"I don't expect it to be as good as the book, so I have low expectations of the movie," said Beth Dial, freshman chemistry major from Malvern. "But Taylor Lautner is hot so it will be good."
As the lights went down, you could feel the excitement in the theater.
The gasps that erupted when vampire Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson, came on the screen, only served to set the mood for the entire movie.
In "New Moon," Bella and Edward are in their senior year and when Bella's birthday party goes awry, Edward is then forced to make a heartbreaking decision to leave Bella alone.
In Edward's absence, Bella clings to her friend Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner, for comfort. Bella is also haunted by visions of Edward warning her not to do anything reckless while he is away.
Even though they are separated, you still can tell that they love each other and that is the type of love that everyone wants and is the reason why millions of fans are addicted to this series.
In "New Moon," we are introduced to the werewolves and finally get to see the transformation that we have only been able to imagine until now.
In the movie we see Jacob change from the little boy that he was in "Twilight" into a buffed out werewolf in "New Moon."
If you missed the first movie, werewolves and vampires have an age-old rivalry.
This rivalry does nothing but add to the tension building between Bella and Jacob
The movie also does a good job of showing the tension between Bella and Jacob as they grow closer and his fears of hurting her through his new found werewolf transformation.
"New Moon" reaches its climax when Alice, a psychic member of Edward's family, returns thinking that Bella is dead.
While on her visit, Alice has a vision of Edward attempting to kill himself by revealing his existence to humanity, a crime punishable by death by the vampire royality the Volturis.
Bella and Alice must rush to save Edward before he reveals himself to humans, or the love that Bella and Edward share will be no more.
For die-hard fans, we know how this heart- pounding drama will end.
All in all, the movie was great. It was surprisingly funny and at the same time showed the dynamic love story between Bella and Edward and her complex relationship with Jacob.
However great it may have been, there was still mixed reviews.
"It was really good," said Rachel Purtee, a sophomore graphic design major from Jonesboro. "There were a few that strayed from the book, but all in all I liked it."
"It was a let down compared to the book and the first movie was better," said Lindsey Ellison a freshman business manager from Jessieville.
The next movie in the "Twilight" saga is "Eclipse" which is set to debut June 30, 2010.
