On Feb. 28, 1975, The Herald reported that Kappa Alpha Psi, a newly formed black fraternity, had received official recognition and unanimous approval as a campus organization of 31 members by the Student Affairs Committee.

The group had been a club since September. The fraternity had been nationally recognized at Mississippi State University, LeMoyne Owens College in Memphis, Henderson State College in Arkadelphia and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

The Herald reported that the fraternity would be installed as a national organization by the end of the semester.
