Our View: Be Cooperative

The recent efforts to gather information on the alleged rape on campus have brought to light an important issue for The Herald.
We would like to urge university administrators to realize that the campus newspaper is here to inform students of what goes on across this campus.
We are not here to twist words or to influence the opinions of the student body one way or the other. We are here to respectfully report the truth to our audience.
That audience-students-pay tuition and fees to attend the university and deserve to know what goes on in the community they have chosen to become a part of.
Everything that happens on this campus impacts students on some level. Information should not be kept from them through denying a media outlet access.
As mentioned in a previous Our View, good leaders are accessible and accountable. Students look to those in charge for leadership. Do not disappoint by keeping them in the dark.
It reflects badly on both those with information and on the university itself when the campus newspaper cannot get information willingly given to other media outlets, such as The Jonesboro Sun and KAIT.
If we are courteous in our quest for information, please be courteous in return. We are student journalists and we might not hold the same individual credentials as those of professional organizations, but The Herald is an important media outlet on this campus and we strive to keep our students informed.
We desire to work with you in an effort to make ASU the best possible university it can be for students. Please don't shut us out.
