On March 6, 1948, The Herald reported that two Arkansas State College fraternities had affiliated with national organizations.

Zeta Tau Zeta became affiliated with the national Sigma Pi Fraternity on March 1, after being accepted and formally pledged to the organization. ZTZ was the first campus group to affiliate with a national social fraternity.

According to Sigma Pi Fraternity's records, Sigma Pi Fraternity was the first nationally chartered fraternity on the ASU campus. The members of Zeta Tau Zeta were initiated into Sigma Pi on March 7, 1948.
