Members and alumni of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity are offering rewards of up to $10,000 for information about the two men responsible for the rape reported to have taken place during a party at the fraternity house Feb. 27.

An 18-year-old female reported that she had been raped by two men at the party to UPD at about 3:25 a.m. on Feb. 27.

"The victim is known by all of us to be a brave and exceptionally bright young lady," the organization stated in a news release.

Jim Houser, PiKA president, said the decision to offer a reward was talked about within the chapter and then brought up in an alumni meeting.

The rewards will be determined and distributed by the Pike Reward Fund Committee.

"We are encouraging anyone with any information to come forth because no matter how impertinent they feel it might be, it could be the missing piece," Houser said.

UPD Investigator Brian Shelton said offering a potential reward is not guaranteed to generate leads in the case.

"I've seen it work both ways in my 20 years of police work," Shelton said. "I hope it does [work.]"

UPD Chief Jim Chapman agreed with Shelton.

"Rewards work sometimes and sometimes they don't," Chapman said.

Chapman said the investigation is still underway and "at last count" 30 witnesses had been interviewed.

The victim described one suspect as a 5-foot-11-inch African American male with a light complexion and a medium build.

She told police he had a short "fade" hairstyle and spoke in a "soft" voice.

The other suspect was described as a 5-foot-9-inch African American male with a dark complexion and a medium build.

He also was reported to have facial hair described as "fuzz" and to have a "polite demeanor."

He was reported to have spoken in a "low pitch."

Anyone that would like to contribute to the reward fund can mail donations to Pike Reward Fund, c/o Heritage Bank. P.O. Box 3020, Jonesboro, Ark., 72401.

Information can be provided to the University Police Department by calling 870-972-2093 and anonymous tips are welcome.
